Our day in Florence

The tour group had a few hours in Florence where we had been before with Insight last year.  We therefore had the chance to play hooky from the group and go on our on gallivanting.   It was wonderful! We felt free!

Our plan was to visit the following three places taking into account the different opening times and the time we had to meet up with the tour group again.

I will let the images describe our beautiful day with the Medici family and Michelangelo.
 The grand, large Medici Chapel

The ceiling of the Medici Chapel

The Medici Chapel is very high!

The floor is magnificent too.

The altar in detail.

And then a break for lunch outside our next venue - Church of San Lorenzo where they had this colourful table mat.

And here I was pouring w-a-t-e-r.  Jonathan poured the wine.

It was such a beautiful lunch ( pasta Medici for J and pasta Lorenzo for me) that I succumbed to the waiter's suggestion of chocolate cake with coffee.

I was going to say " Not cake" but I thought " no matter" Result- still delicious.

Then we continued with our next two venues  - which we found just as wonderful.  Everyone's probably grateful that no photos were allowed inside San Lorenzo

On to our final venue with the help of Google Maps mainly to see where Michelangelo (and others ) are buried.
What a beautiful church.

And then alas we ran out of time and had to join up again with the tour group.

Farewell beautiful, beautiful Florence.
